5 Timeless Military Haircuts For Men & How To Get Them
Most of us don’t realise the influence that the military has had on the haircut we have in 2018.
You can pretty much guarantee that the haircut you have right now, if shorter, has originated in some way in the military. And that’s because, military haircuts are typically always short and faded, used because they are less maintenance and more hygienic. Generally speaking, the closer you are to the battlefield, the more likely you are to have a shorter haircut.
Military haircuts have maintained their popularity, because of their simplicity and their masculine look and are as good now as they were 100 years ago. So, here’s 5 of the most timeless military haircuts for men..

Military Buzz Cut
The buzz cut is the standard military haircut, as seen in movies like Jarhead, and comes in many different shapes and names, with cuts like the burr cut and butch cut also in the buzz cut category. But ultimately the difference with these cuts is the length on the sides and top.
The typical buzz cut is buzzed to one length all over, with no transitions in length between the sides and back and is used in the Military because of its ease.
However, recently we’re seeing the buzz cut paired with a fade on the back and sides, normally as a skin fade, and then the top being left slightly longer in length to around a 2-5 to add some elements of style to the buzz cut. The best thing about the buzz cut? It requires no styling at all!
Military High and Tight Haircut
The high and tight is probably the one that most of us think of when we think military haircut.
The term high and tight can be used to describe any cut with one length on the sides being taken up high and tight (to the point where you wouldn’t see the change in length under a Military cap). But the more common high and tight haircut is worn with a crew cut style cut on top, leaving length through the front of the hair and getting shorter towards the crown.
After a lot of trends with lower and mid fades, we’ve seen the high and tight become a lot more popular again with people like David Beckham and Tommy Egan in Power wearing variations on it.
To style the high and tight like the gents below, use a matte finish product with a medium to high hold, like the Regal Gentleman Matte Clay.
Military Regulation Haircut
The military regulation haircut is smarter and longer than you’d normally associate with a lot of military haircuts, and that is why it’s normally worn by higher ranking officials.
The haircut is essentially a side parting with a fade on the back and sides, normally worn in the military down to a skin fade and low reg (low fade) or high reg (high fade).
You could also wear the military regulation haircut with a hard part (when the parting line is razored in). This will make the hair easier to style in the morning, but be wary as this will require more regular maintenance than if the hair was left to naturally part.
To style the military regulation haircut use a medium to high shine pomade, like the Regal Gentleman Vintage Pomade (coming soon), to give you the more slicked look.
Military Undercut Haircut
The undercut rose in popularity again between 2014 to 2016 with the Peaky Blinders and Brad Pitt in Fury, all military gents, wearing a variation on the undercut. However, since then the undercut has begun to fade out, with it’s association to the alt-right movement playing a huge part in its decline.
But it’s now back again, worn a lot softer and less harsh than it’s Military brother. We’ve seen it in Deadpool 2 with Josh Brolin wearing a more natural and soft version as Cable.
Expect to see the undercut worn with a matte, more natural finish and less of a slicked back look using a paste like Regal Gentleman Texture Paste. However, if you want to go back to the classic military style, like Brad Pitt, then style with a high shine pomade, like the Regal Gentleman Vintage Pomade (coming soon).
Military Ivy League Haircut
The Ivy League haircut is a true classic, and it’s one that if ever in doubt most men can pull off. The Ivy League is essentially a longer version of the crew cut but with enough length in the front to sweep over to the side. It’s also normally worn a lot cleaner and more natural than the crew cut too.
The important part with the Ivy League haircut is to add texture to the hair, and this style is versatile; great worn smart or casual.
To switch it up a little bit add a fade to the back and sides, which will give you more of a crew cut, but keep the textured top.
To style the Ivy League haircut use a matte finish product like the Regal Gentleman Matte Clay.
