The Alpina BMWs can be likened to the classic steel fist in a velvet glove and represent a more luxurious and decadent take on the typical sporty BMW. It’s a luxurious M for sophisticated tastes and – in the case of a car such as the X7 SUV which doesn’t come with its own proper M derivative – the ultimate model in the lineup. With the BMW Alpina XB7 SUV still new after last year’s update that came with a new 630-horsepower engine, it’s more of the same this year as the most expensive X7 derivative fights it out for the luxury-SUV spoils in a class where few rivals can offer such a complete package. A quick review of the 2024 BMW Alpina XB7’s competitors reveals the main suspects to again be the Bentley Bentayga and Mercedes-AMG GLS 63. The XB7 is more expensive than the Merc, but looks like a bargain next to the $200k Bentley. The base X7 is already arguably the most accomplished three-row luxury SUV on the market and the Alpina XB7 flagship will be looking to cement its position at the top of the class.
