PART 1

ART / ARTWORKS

Do you like art?

(Answer 1)

Yes, I do. Who doesn’t love art? (rhetorical question) Actually, I got my love for art (to be influenced) from my parents because both of them collect pieces of art such as paintings, sculptures, mosaics, and any form of decorative art. So, I grew up seeing various types of art and that actually helps develop a unique (different) perspective on life.

(Answer 2)

Well, if we’re talking about sculptures as art then, of course, I like art. Sculptures always fascinate (interest) me because they make me wonder how enormous (huge) the sculptor’s talent is for creating such masterpieces. For me, the effort and the creativity that the sculptors put into their works are unfathomable (incomprehensible) which makes me admire them. Other than sculptures, I’m not just a fan of other forms of art.

(Answer 3)

Yes, I do. I love visual arts (creative art that is appreciated by sight), especially fine arts (belongs to the general category of visual arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, film-making, printmaking, calligraphy, etc. ) and decorative arts (arts or crafts concerned with the production of objects that are both beautiful and functional; objects like ceramics and pots). Well, I’ve collected some pieces of abstract art (a visual art that uses shapes, colors, lines, that are independent from the visual references of the world) since I’m mesmerized (enthrall; dazzle) by the beauty of it – it does fire my imagination (to make someone feel very excited and interested ) to interpret the meaning and comprehend the emotion of the artist that is depicted (portray) in the masterpiece. I also enjoy keeping some ceramics, pottery, and mosaic art (an artistic picture or design made out of materials that are assembled together) at home.

(Answer 4)

Yes, I’ve had a deep-rooted (continuing to exist or endure over a prolonged period) admiration for art since I was a grader. Actually, I was an active member of an art club during my primary and high school days and it really helped me develop my prowess (skill or expertise in a particular activity or field) in painting. Well, these days, I’ve cultivated (developed) a new hobby which is sculpting, and I find it fascinating and satisfying.

Do you think it would be interesting for you to be an artist?

(Answer 1)

Honestly, I was considering being an artist as a profession in the past since I could actually paint. However, my parents gave me a piece of very important advice about careers that made me open my mind. They said that I could be an artist as a way to express my creativity but I shouldn’t make it my career because when money is involved, the enjoyment of creating a piece of artwork creatively would dissipate (disappear). In other words, money destroys creativity. So, I heeded (paid attention to) my parents’ advice and I didn’t work as an artist.

(Answer 2)

I think artists are born and not made. So, I believe if I was born with an amazing talent in art, it would surely be interesting since I could create different masterpieces based on my emotions and creativity. Besides, I’d be able to hold my own exhibit. However, I just don’t have any talent for any kind of art. So, that remains an illusion (an idea or belief that is not true.)

Is there any artwork on the wall in your room?

(Answer 1)

Yes! As I said, my parents are avid (eager; enthusiastic) collectors of different forms of art so it’s common to see some paintings on the wall in some parts of our house. In my room, I have one. It’s an abstract painting that my dad bought from his business trip abroad. I really like it because somehow it represents (symbolizes) my personality.

(Answer 2)

Not even one! I’m kind of a minimalist person so I make sure not to decorate my room even with a piece of artwork. I want my bedroom to be free from a lot of stuff as they just annoy  (irritate) me. However, in my parents’ room and in our living room there are several pieces of artwork displayed.

(Answer 3)

I don’t have any pieces of artwork in my room since my room is

cramped

(

uncomfortably small)

. However, we have some in our living and dining rooms. Actually, my mom is an art enthusiast; she loves to collect abstract paintings and hang them on the walls. Those pieces of artwork actually add life to our interior and honestly, I

can’t take my eyes off them

(

something or someone that is interesting or captivating that one cannot stop looking)

(Answer 4)

Yes, I have two – one is a figurative art (an artwork that is derived from real objects or the world references) that was gifted to me by my best friend who is an artist and the other one is a stained glass (colored glass used to form decorative or pictorial designs and commonly used in the windows of churches) of Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpiece, The Starry Night. I got it from an online art shop five years ago, and that was the time when I was engrossed in (to be absorbed in all the attention or interest of something) reading stories about the life of Vincent Van Gogh. Those two artworks hold a special place in my heart (something that is emotionally important to you).

Have you ever visited an art gallery?

(Answer 1)

Of course! Honestly, I can no longer count the different galleries that I visited. But one memorable art gallery that I visited was in our city when my friend held an exhibit of his artwork. I gave my 100% support to him because he’s such an amazing artist. His paintings are usually out of this world (extremely impressive). Actually, that art gallery was packed (very crowded) when he had his exhibit.

(Answer 2)

Yes, many times. I started visiting an art gallery when I was a high school student since our art teacher usually took us to art exhibitions. I can’t say that I fully enjoyed those experiences because, at that time, I didn’t have so much interest in art. It wasn’t until recently that I found love in sculptures after I watched a documentary about sculptors. That opened my mind to understanding and appreciating sculptors and their works.

(Answer 3)

Absolutely! I’ve been to several art galleries in different countries. I’ve visited the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing, the National Gallery in London, the Art Gallery in Western Australia, and the Mori Building Digital Art Museum in Tokyo. Of all those art galleries, the digital art museum in Tokyo is my favorite because it’s futuristic (involving very modern technology and design), extraordinary, creative, and dreamy (magical). I couldn’t help myself but be entranced (captivated; enchanted) by the beauty of that kind of art.

(Answer 4)

Yes, I have been to some, however, that was when I was still a primary schooler. I remember, before we had our summer break, our art teachers usually took us to some art galleries in the city, and unfortunately, I can’t recall whether or not I enjoyed it. As you know, children don’t usually appreciate the beauty of any kind of art.

Do you like drawing?

(Answer 1)

Yes, I do. I love drawing as it’s my way of expressing my emotions, most especially my negative emotions. When I feel depressed, drawing is my comfort. Through drawing, I get to release my frustration and it helps me keep going (make an effort to live normally in a difficult situation) in life.

(Answer 2)

Well, drawing is not my cup of tea (not what one likes or is interested in) simply because I don’t know how to draw. I haven’t developed a skill in drawing. What I can draw is only a stick figure (a stickman), I’m like a child who has just started to learn drawing.

Do you like to go to the gallery?

(Answer 1)

Yes, definitely!  I’m into visiting galleries because I just love art. I’m fond of (to like someone or something very much) looking at those paintings or sculptures made by artists. For some reason, when I visit a gallery I feel so calm and I forget all my worries in life.

(Answer 2)

Well, it’s fine with me to go to an art gallery if someone invites me, but deciding on my own to visit a gallery hasn’t happened yet. I guess I’m not just a fan of (not liking something) galleries and I think I haven’t developed an interest in art exhibitions.

Do you want to learn more about art?

(Answer 1)

I love art but I haven’t considered learning more about it. Yes, I’m good at drawing but it’s just my hobby. I don’t want to learn more about drawing as I’m also pretty busy with my current work. I just don’t have some extra time to learn about art.

(Answer 2)

No, I haven’t thought about that. I believe I have no spare time (extra time) to learn different forms of art, but even if I have time, I still don’t want to spend it learning about art as I’m not interested in it. I’d rather develop business skills as that’s way more important in life, in my opinion.

Did you learn drawing when you were a kid?

(Answer 1)

Yes, of course! I remember our kindergarten teacher taught us how to draw a stick figure. And when I was a first-year high school student, our art teacher taught us how to sketch like a professional and that’s when I developed my artistry (creative skill or ability).

(Answer 2)

Yes, I did! I think every child learns how to draw in school since teachers spend time teaching them how to draw in their art class. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the talent for drawing. No matter how hard I tried learning back then, I just couldn’t improve.

Have you ever had art classes?

(Answer 1)

Yes, I had. I had a great time doing some crafts (activities that require skills in creating things by hand) back in the days when I was still a student. Well, I believe all primary and high school students are mandated (required) to study art for that is part of the curriculum (a course of study). Having art classes at an early age helps children develop their imaginative skills or their creative thinking.

(Answer 2)

Yes, I have and I’m still doing it now. I’m actually a Fine Arts student in one of the most prestigious (reputable; respected) art institutes in this city. And this current semester, I’m learning about minimalism, and to tell you the truth, I’m hooked on it (to be addicted or to like something very much). I don’t know, I just can’t describe my feelings studying that type of art.
