2023 BMW R 1250 GS Ultimate Edition Breaks Cover; The Last Hurrah For The ADV?

BMW Motorrad has unveiled the R 1250 GS Ultimate Edition for 2023. It comes ripe with a bevy of accessories, which make it better to ride, live with, and look at. More importantly, we believe the ‘Ultimate Edition’ is a subtle wordplay to mark the ADV’s last hurrah before the new R 1300 GS takes over. To jog your memory, the MY2024 ADV has already been spied multiple times. Anyway, here are the full deets of the Ultimate Edition.

This GS has an all-black aesthetic, even including the black crash protectors

The first noteworthy element here is the sinister aesthetic. BMW’s Triple Black livery adorns the bodywork, while the tinted windscreen, blacked-out crash protectors, and black spokes serve as the perfect sidekicks. A closer look also reveals the additional LED lights, a plethora of Option 719 machined billet aluminum bits, an adaptive headlight, and golden ‘Ultimate’ badges to mark the special edition.

The next update comes to the features. Though the 1250 GS is already ripe with most necessities, BMW has equipped the Ultimate Edition with its Comfort and Touring packages. The former unlocks heated grips and keyless ignition, whereas the latter gets you cruise control, satellite navigation, and pannier mounts.

The Akrapovic exhaust is the only performance upgrade you get

Our favorite addition, however, comes via BMW’s Dynamic package. It equips the 1250 GS with semi-active suspension (or Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment in BMW’s language) that works alongside the IMU to adjust the damping and preload on its own. Also part of the package is the ‘Pro’ rider mode and an up-down quickshifter.

As for the engine, the Ultimate Edition employs the same 1,254cc boxer engine found on the standard GS. But here it breathes more freely via an Akrapovic titanium slip-on (with a carbon tip) that should also bump the stock 136 horsepower and 105 pound-feet marginally. It should, in theory, reduce the weight as well, although the added equipment will likely nullify that.

Finally, BMW will only produce 2,100 units of the R 1250 GS Ultimate Edition, each example priced at €26,900 (or $29,640). Thus far, only Europe and Britain’s BMW websites list the special edition and there’s no word on its North American arrival. But BMW’s press release mentions this is “a limited edition of 2,100 copies worldwide”, so we expect to see it here soon. Oh, and in case you think this is too expensive, BMW claims you save over $2,000 if you buy the Ultimate Edition instead of the separate accessory packages. Sounds good, right?
