2023 BMW 4 Series Convertible: Review, Trims, Specs, Price, New Interior Features, Exterior Design, and Specifications | CarBuzz
If you’re in the market for a plush and compact four-seater convertible, you may have noticed your options are limited – and decidedly German. For decades, that country’s luxury brands have ruled the USA market – none more so than BMW and its elegant 4 Series Convertible. Now in its second generation, the 4er drop-top has a strong lineage that can be traced back to the E30 of the late ’80s. Clearly, Munich has plenty of experience in this segment.
A brief stint behind the wheel of the 2023 4 Series Convertible will confirm this; it’s a stellar machine to pilot. Priced between $55,500 and $68,250, the Bimmer takes the fight to the beautiful but aging C-Class Convertible and the elegant Audi A5 Convertible, both of which are strong contenders. Underpinned by the CLAR architecture, the BMW is the most athletic of the trio, also reflected by the punchy engines on offer.
A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 255 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque can be found in the 430i derivatives, but the headline act is undoubtedly the sweet-sounding 3.0-liter that does duty in the M440i variants. With a muscular 382 hp and 368 lb-ft, this turbocharged straight-six can rocket the drop-top to 60 mph in a mere 4.7 seconds in xDrive guise. All models utilize the ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission, regardless of the driven wheels.
The convertible is the looker in the 4 series range with its tasteful cloth top, and while it may be a talented performer, is it still the superior choice in this small but esteemed segment?
