There are two powertrain options available, both of them coupled to an 8-Speed automatic transmission. The standard powertrain, 3.0L TwinPower turbocharged inline-6 comes on the base 740i trim. It churns out 335 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque and takes the 7 Series from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. The power is transferred to rear wheels as standard but when it is supplied to all wheels, 7 Series sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.

The horsepower of the BMW 7 Series and the fellow rivals is in the same ballpark but if we talk about torque then the Audi A8 and the Mercedes Benz S-Class have the lead. Furthermore, all sedans in the competition have the same base engine capacity. Only the Bimmer has an inline engine while the other three come with a V configuration. S Class is the most powerful in the lot when it comes to performance figures on paper and completes the 0-60 mph faster than anyone else. Lastly, the A8 is the slowest of all as it reaches 60 mph from a standstill in 5.6 seconds.

Thanks to its biggest brake rotors and comparatively low curb weight as compared to its rivals, the BMW 7 Series pulls off the best performance in the braking segment while the Mercedes-S-Class takes the runner-up spot. However, we expect the Panamera can also display a good braking performance because it is exceptionally light and nimble in terms of handling. As for the Audi A8, it is the heaviest in the bunch and comes with the biggest set of front brake rotors.
