Results:
The prevalence of students who were cyberbullied
was 36.5% (95% CI: 32.9%-40.4%). Factors with higher odds of being cyberbullied
included internet addiction OR=1.71; 95% CI: 1.35-2.18), experience of violent
behavior caused by their peers in the neighbourhood (OR=1.78; 95% CI 1.30-2.45)
and living in areas with high level of social evils. However, students who
received caring from father, those who felt that teachers treated fairly to all
students had lower odds of being cyberbullied (OR=0.67, 95% CI 0.48-0.93 and
OR=0.65, 95% CI 0.49-0.86).
Conclusions: Cyberbullying is prevalent in students. Parents should pay more
attention to their children, choose a secure living area, and instruct them on
how to choose friends. Intervention strategies should be considered by schools
and families to control students internet usage.
